Go therefore and make disciples of all nations

Matthew 28:19

Throughout the past forty years, FUMC been deeply committed to serving those most vulnerable in our city. Service to our community is in our church’s DNA. Every Sunday morning for many years, we have provided a meal, coffee, clothing and hygiene items for our unhoused brothers and sisters. In October of 2017, we expanded our efforts to serve those in need by purchasing a mobile shower unit, including six shower stalls. Now, every week we are able to provide clean showers along with breakfast, coffee, and hygiene items for our unhoused neighbors Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

PB&J Party

Peanut Butter & Jelly Parties are small get togethers where we make PB&J sandwiches and package them with other snack items in bags for the homeless. We will make approximately 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our unhoused friends downtown. We serve them meals and offer showers 4 days a week: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We would love for your office, club, family, group, or individuals to sign up for this event. We always need help and will work around your schedule.

You can sign up for a week to make sandwiches by clicking the button below.

Amazon WishList

Let's work together to meet the needs of our community. Each month we will be collecting donations for our homeless ministry based on their most pressing needs. Simply click the button below to view our wishlist and purchase an item that's most in need. It's easy! Once you place your order it will be delivered directly to us. If you'd rather purchase items on your own, you can drop them off at the church Monday-Thursday between 9am and 4pm or bring them with you to service on Sundays!

Annual Foot Washing

In the spring, FUMC hosts a “Foot Washing” in honor of the act of service that Jesus offered to his disciples. On a Saturday, we welcome our homeless brothers and sisters into the church for their feet to be washed. Podiatrist students from Barry University come to attend to the feet needs of each person, as well as physician assistant students from Miami Dade College to provide health screenings to all. We are always in need of supplies as we aim to provide a new pair of shoes to each of of clients at this event. Last year nearly 300 people were served. It is one of the most anticipated events of our church’s year as it reflects with such clarity our role as servant to the community of Downtown Miami.

Thanksgiving Meal

In partnership with Branches Trish and Dan Bell Family Empowerment Centers, we offer a satellite site for their Thanksgiving Meal Delivery. On the day leading up to Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day, we will prepare and deliver over 500 meals to feed individuals in need across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. We provide a wide spread of traditional thanksgiving food that are packaged and sent to individuals around the county. In addition, we offer our regular clients at the Breakfast Club a space to eat, fellowship, and pray for one another.

Christmas Eve Breakfast

During the holidays we offer a special meal and gifts. In the winter, blankets are provided to each person. The relationships that have been built during these years have been lasting and many persons who receive from the ministry now come and assist with meal preparation and distribution. Join us this Christmas Eve from 7 AM to 10 AM at Greater Bethel AME for a heartfelt breakfast event for the unhoused in our community. Together, we'll prepare and serve a warm meal and spread holiday cheer to those in need. Your presence and support can make a meaningful difference. Help us share kindness and nourishment this holiday season!
